David Yurman Ring Guide: Styles and Prices

David Yurman provides a style that is uniquely its own: classic, edgy and modern in one. This is true for all its jewelry lines including its rings. With a consistent theme, it isn’t afraid to explore the possibilities of its philosophy. From the simple bands with a precious gemstone enhancer to the more young and upbeat multi-bands with the multi-color gems; it continues to challenge its range and styles without losing its identity that it will first and foremost be a ring with that can surpass the limitations of time and trends.

List Price: $98.80 USD

The cheapest David Yurman ring can cost just around $125 and that’s usually exclusive to simple bands that lean on the lighter side, weight wise. At just around $300 to $400, you’ll have access to pave enhancers, albeit minimal, but I think it is still a steal for the price. At that same price, you'll also get a few gemstone-enhanced ones, multi-bands and sculpted cables that have a decent amount of weight stacked up. The most expensive David Yurman could reach a price as high as $11,000 and you could bet your dollar on it that it will have multitudes of diamonds and contains more gold.

Inspired Rings vs The Real Thing – What's the Difference

Inspired

Genuine

While there’s no substitute for the real thing, sometimes buying the real thing can be very impractical for most people. This is how and why inspired jewelry, or in this case inspired rings, find their niche market, build their business and thrive. Inspired rings aren’t exactly knock-offs or replicas since they, first of all, do not claim to be the real thing and second of all their make and designs vary slightly and sometimes significantly from the genuine David Yurman rings.

List Price: $75.00 USD

David Yurman inspired rings pretty much just uses the real ones as inspiration and what you would get is the look and feel of a David Yurman ring without the guilt of using the brand’s name or boring a wore into your wallet. The trade-off in the price difference usually lies in the quality of the materials being used in the inspired rings. Instead of using real gold, for instance, the metal used (usually silver) goes through a process called gold plating. Another trick of inspired rings is the use of cubic zirconia in place of diamonds and other precious stones. Cubic zirconia is a synthetic material that is relatively cheaper to produce and can come in a variety of colors.

The Most Popular Styles: Crossover and Albion Rings

List Price: $70.00 USD

List Price: $29.99 USD

David Yurman carries a broad range of ring styles for you to choose from. For collectors or those who are willing to spend a little bit more, a good place to start would be through some of DY’s more popular and classic styles like the albion and the crossover. Albion rings feature precious stones or pave diamonds in square frames with curved edges. The precious stones are usually faceted but there are choices of solid or plain ones too. Albion rings can either be framed in plain metal or pave diamonds. The size of the stones are 7mm, 11mm, 14mm and 20mm which range from $600+ to a little under $1,500, respectively. A price certainly fit for seasoned collectors. If the Albion will cause too much setback then the crossovers make for a wonderful option.

The crossovers are rings that are formed by crossing over several thin-cut rings. These thin rings often come in fives or more and in cable and plain designs. Most often crossover rings feature pave diamonds either as enhancers to the ring or as a thin ring itself that forms part of the entire ring. Personally, I think crossovers are a far better fit for more upbeat and trendy buyers. They’re also more affordable and more versatile than Albions. The prices go for as low as $350 and those crossovers already include a minimal pave diamond enhancer, multiply bands, chunky appearance or all of the above. Crossovers can, however, reach the $3,000 mark when it uses pure gold instead of silver.

Other Styles

But perhaps my most favorite styles are the X rings and the sculpted cables. The X rings are actually crossovers but the only difference is the ring is formed by crossing over two thin rings or by forming an ex. One of the small rings is styled in the classic David Yurman cable design while the other ring is usually plain or unstyled. The rings can sometimes feature pave diamonds as enhancers but most of the time they are simply enhanced through the two-tone effect of gold on silver and it usually is beautiful that way. Ocassionally, an X ring can also mean a ring that has an “X” enhancer on a say a row of 3 sculpted rings or a crossover. Prices range from $350 to around $3,000.

The sculpted cables are rings that highlight David Yurman’s famous cable designs. The entire ring is formed with the DY cables sculpted on them. They are usually wide bands to show the excellent craftsmanship. The sculpted rings usually don’t have enhancers but when they do decide to feature an enhancer, it is usually pave diamonds. Prices range from $400 to as much as $6,000. The pricing rule is more gold and more diamonds mean more dineros to shell out.

Citrine, Blue Topaz, and Other Precious Stone Rings

A vast majority of David Yurman’s ring collections highlights precious and semi-precious stones. It is important to understand that the category of a gemstone, whether it is precious or semi-precious, tells nothing of its value. This classification was used by ancient times when stones had significant meaning to a ritual and etc. Therefore, a stone can be semi precious and still come out more expensive that some semi-precious stones.

In David Yurman, some ring styles are more stone-driven than others in that their designs are basically centered on a gemstone. The Wheaton, Albion, cushion on point, noblesse are just some of these stone-driven styles. Some rings carry a beautiful design as they are but become more enhanced by precious stones. These styles include the mosaic, the confetti and the cable wrap.

The gemstones David Yurman uses on its rings are extensive and many. Some gems that you might find hard to find in other jewelry designer, you would most likely find in David Yurman. The exhaustive list of the gemstones DY uses include: amethyst, chalcedony, diamond, onyx, topaz, citrine, garnet, hematite, quartz, morganite, pearl, peridot, tourmaline, prasiolite, garnet, ruby, turquoise and agate. Some of these stones come in different variations. Some have limited variations like the Diamonds, for example, which can either be black or white, the Onyx which come in black and green and the Chalcedony that appear in aqua and pink. Amethyst, on the other hand, comes in two different shades of purple. The same is true for Citrine.

Other stones come in a wider variety of colors and this is particularly true for the gemstones made of quartz which come in white (moonquartz), olive, rose, ruby and smokey. David Yurman doesn’t limit its use of gemstones so it wouldn’t be a surprised if introduces other gemstones or variations of a gemstone in its future collections.

Men’s Rings

David Yurman also offers men’s rings. The designs carry stones that uniquely signify masculinity. Among these interesting and exotic gemstones featured in DY rings for men are: cognac diamond, bronzite, malachite, pietersite and tiger’s eye, among other. The most unique of these is arguably the Pietersite, a gem that can only be found in China and some parts of Africa. The stone carries multiple colors that aren’t exactly in the same color palette. The patterns are random as well which makes it a very interesting enhancer if you so happen to decide buying a DY men’s ring.

Getting Married? Check Out the Engagement Rings

The newest addition to David Yurman’s fine collection of rings is their Bridal Collection line which includes choice designs and exceptional quality of engagement rings. David Yurman has always made it a point to establish itself as the jewelry line that provides classic American design with the utmost standard for quality. It has so far been consistent with that assertion and this new line is no exception.

One noticeable change in the engagement line is the use of platinum in place of silver for the white rings. The yellow rings continue to make use of 18k yellow gold. In addition, David Yurman released its very first version of David Yurman Signature Cut Diamonds. These diamonds possess the brilliance, clarity and carat that make for a truly valuable investment. Nothing says commitment than putting the best diamond in that engagement ring.

To top it off, David Yurman caters to the taste of the simple, the extravagant and the ones in between with his engagement rings. One style features pave diamonds on the band on top of the bling itself, another features a simple DY cable band with the signature cut and yet another features the X band to go along with the cut. It is clearly a well-thought out line that any girl will undoubtedly fall head over heels for. A sweet seal to a sweet promise, if a must say so myself

David Yurman doesn’t disclose their prices for the engagement rings; you have to make an appointment with them first. This is because a lot has to be considered when choosing engagement rings: the metal that will be used, the cut of the diamond, the quality and the weight. There are so details to consider and each of those details have different value making it impossible to fit the rings to specific price ranges.

Be Careful When Looking for Discounts on David Yurman Rings

If you're looking for discounts on a real david yurman ring avoid sites like Ebay because sellers can fake the bags. Not all david yurman rings are made with low quality materials, there are high priced replicas which use real silver, gold, and gemstones which are difficult to spot the difference.
